Problem:
Tinder is one of the world’s leading dating apps, with over 75 million monthly active users across more than 190 countries. As AI was emerging in the market, Tinder wanted to look for a way to stay competitive and utilize AI to improve the user experience. With many problems to tackle, two of the top user problems included users unable to identify through the current profile and swiping experiences 1) who would be a good match and 2) who is real.

Solution:
After six months of research and design iterations, the team created multiple AI-driven solutions to boost sign-ups, retention, and overall experience. One highlighted profile similarities to improve match relevance, increasing engagement and matches. Another introduced mandatory biometric face scans, adding verification badges that reduced bots, scammers, and harmful interactions. The features improved engagement and reduced bad actor interactions.

Process + Role:
To address the problem, a cross-functional AI team was formed, including strategists, researchers, PMs, designers, engineers, and analysts. As Staff Designer, I led the design direction, guided other designers, partnered with PMs, and facilitated workshops to shape strategy and execution. I also presented prototypes to stakeholders and leadership. Both solutions went through extensive reviews, testing, and iterations.

Other work at Tinder:
-
A redesigned reporting system
-
A way for users to share their date details with friends
- An integration with a safety tracking product, Noonlight
- And many others
